Influencing UK and European policy and strategy

Seeports is in regular contact with relevant Ministers, MPs and MEPs. Howard has attended many hearings of the UK House of Commons Transport Committee and the All Party Parliamentary Groups on Ports, on Transport Infrastructure and Trans-European Networks and others, giving both written statements and verbal evidence as required.

Seeports maintains contact with relevant parts of the UK Department for Transport and assistance is provided when requested, for example in the provision of data for the "Roll-on roll-off freight end-to-end journey" document (DfT December 2008). Contact is also maintained with various parts of the European Commission and other offices in Brussels in order to seek to influence evolving policy in the transport arena.

Seeports has also worked at regional level, for example giving written and verbal evidence concerning ports, freight and intermodal transport during the development and examination of the South East Plan in the UK. Seeports continues to assist and inform on similar regional transport issues, particularly where they impact on regeneration proposals or affect the regional or national economy.
